'Love & Hip Hop Hollywood' star YoYo says Black College Expo™ changed her life

Yolanda “YoYo” Whitaker, a Grammy-nominated female rapper, actress, artist, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, boldly speaks about how Black College Expo™ changed her life.


YoYo who is a national ambassador for Black College Expo™ promoting higher education and mentoring young people.


“Black College Expo has increased my life on a whole ‘nother level. To have these kids who … don’t know me but show me love where you can feel it, gives me a feeling I have I never encountered before,” YoYo said.

At each expo, YoYo presents a standing-room-only workshop on “How to get As in English,” turning attendees into fans by the end of her half-hour session. “I just get choked up when a student tells me they learned more [from me] in 30 minutes than they learned in their English class,” she said.


The dynamic hip-hop veteran and former girlfriend of the legendary Tupac Shakur was discovered by actor and rapper Ice Cube. She hit the scene in the ’90s and quickly became Ice Cube’s protégé with hit songs like their duet “Bonnie and Clyde” and her hit single “You Can Play With My YoYo.”
