Why was it important for you to go into the hemp business?
The federal government reclassified hemp with the farm bill for 2018, basically making a hemp seed, just like a corn seed, just like a weed seed. … Hemp has over 23,000 applications. Right now, manufacturing companies want to make jeans out of it. You can build homes out of it. Of course, you can do paper and other applications on it, but more importantly, you can pull the isolate from the hemp. … And now what we’re finding out that it helps people with Alzheimer’s, is helping people with dementia. It helps people with certain pain. So this particular hemp industry basically is a healing mechanism that we’re finding out in so many different industries.
Describe innovative methods that you apply to your business.
One of the innovative methods that we did is, first, we purchased a small herbal company in New Mexico — [a] very boutique herbal company — that has a young lady we call a Mother Judy, Judy Harmon. She’s 77 years old. She’s been an herbalist for over 50 years. We bought her company, [and] now we are infusing and testing and formulating it to create our own product line. So this is one of the few national product lines that’s owned by an African American company.
