Honey Pot CEO Beatrice Dixon nets big sales boost after backlash over Target ad

Can you explain the backlash that you received from the commercial?

They called me racist because I said that it’s important to me that we do well so that the next young Black woman that wants to start a business can really use us to catapult their success. When I say we need to do well, it’s because there’s such a disparity in the Black women founders’ when it comes to us raising capital. I’m one of the first 50 women in history to raise over $1 million in venture capital. When you look at the number of capital that’s preserved for Black women-led businesses, it like .06 percent of $425 billion.

How do you feel about the widespread positive support you received after that?

It’s not about the sales for me. It’s positively impacted the conversation, and that’s where the real wealth is. I’ve never experienced anything like this before in my life. I have a lot of gratitude for the kindness that people have in their hearts.
