What challenges did you face while writing this book?
The greatest challenge was gathering accurate information — the research. But I am a trained scientist as well as an entertainment entrepreneur. I know how to research, and it was a pure treat to research my people and music and our forefathers and mothers of “another ilk” – the unsung, barely recorded pillars of Black business and economics, the entertainers who gave up the music and the players who gave them the places to perform it. They hired. They fed. They created. They built communities.
