SCOTTSDALE, Arizona It was apropos that I was introduced to my large, shiny toy for the afternoon — the 2021 Nissan Armada — at the posh Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in suburban Phoenix. This metallic beauty blended in seamlessly with the aesthetically pleasing environs.

Nissan and SUV aficionados will be impressed right off the bat with this ruggedly handsome vehicle. The Armada has a stately presence yet is a formidable-looking transport at the same time. It has what urbanites call “swag.” While it is handsome in the way that makes your friends nod their heads with respect, you would not classify it as one of the “pretty boys” of the SUV market that the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator or GMC Yukon Denali dominate.

As I pulled away from the tranquil Westin ambiance and was absorbed into Scottsdale’s rush-hour traffic, two characteristics immediately came to mind: comfortability and trustworthiness. Rolling up the driver’s side window and melting into my seat, I felt cloaked in serenity and quietude, completely cordoned off from the frantic pace of big-city traffic even as it swirled about me. I also felt protected. I never had the sense that other drivers would intrude into my space because the bold and brash Armada commands respect on the road.

As a full-size SUV, the Armada is almost as big as a delivery van but with its aerodynamic sexiness is more spruced up and much more powerful. You can haul a boat and a little league team with this SUV. That’s why the three-row SUV compares favorably with the likes of the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
