Howard alum and HBCU Week founder Ashley Christopher reveals celebrity lineup

What events are taking place?

We do emulate a homecoming experience and we kick it off with a day party. We’re also going to do a 5K. There’s a middle school college tour, where we’ll take about 20 eighth graders to tour the campus of Delaware State University. We want to get them engaged in that process a little early before they have their high school campuses.

On Wednesday, we’re having an R&B concert with Queen Naija and Wale. Thursday, we will have a panel discussion featuring the president of Delaware State University. He’ll have the audience of several hundreds of kids that are looking for that HBCU experience and all kinds of questions that they have will be answered there. Friday, we have a really cool comedy show with Wanda Sykes. The cornerstone of our event happens on Friday, our college fair.

Can students get information about scholarship awards at the college fair?

Our college fair is very significant because most of the participating HBCUs engage in an on-the-spot acceptance process. So if you’re a graduating senior, and you have the requisite scores, whether it be your transcripts and SAT or ACT score, you can get admitted into school on the spot and receive a scholarship award.
