How long did it take you to go from conception to fruition?
I was on maternity leave in 2014 and was like, OK, let me start getting the process going. So, I started writing the business plan. And because this was something really new, something really different, I had never seen it being done. I knew I had to do a lot of research. Through the research, I realized I’m gonna have a lot of expenses, you know, trying to get this trailer, a truck, and equipment and etc.
I wrote this really extensive business plan and it took me about a year. Then it came down to “are you going to pull the trigger or what? Are you going to do it or what?” So, I borrowed against my 401K because I was working in corporate America and said, “let’s do it!”
What was it like pitching to Daymond John?
It was amazing and I was one of 15 businesses selected to pitch in the Miller Lite Tap The Future®, a nationwide pitch competition. I pitched in front of 300 people in a live audience and Daymond John was the celebrity judge. You know I watched “Shark Tank” day and night leading up to that to practice. I wanted to see what kind of questions Daymond asked. And so I knew he was about the numbers and wanted to know how many clients are needed to hit your daily goals. What are your daily goals in order to reach your annual revenue? How much profit are you going to make? I made sure that I wrote out a script. I wrote down all of the key answers to those types of questions. He said, “Yup, somebody knows their numbers.”
