How do you incorporate your activism in your branding?
I feel like it’s important that you stand for what you believe in first. Because of who we are, the platform that we’re on, our voices are being heard more than others. So for the ones [whose] voices aren’t being heard, I think we should be the ones that are picking up the slack [and] speaking up about things that need to be talked about. So [I] just make sure I stay on top of it, [and] keep posting. Also, in Chicago, we’re trying to [arrange things] for a young lady that passed that wanted to be a WNBA player. So we’re looking into doing things with the school, and being able to talk to the kids, to have a positive impact on them.
What advice would you give to young women or men athletes, brand creators or students, to continue to be their authentic selves?
My message to them is just to continue to be yourself, you’re beautiful, God created you the way he did for a reason. And you have a purpose, you’re seen. So always feel like you’re enough, don’t compare yourself to others [because] everybody’s process is different, just because they’re moving in a better direction than you right now doesn’t mean much, you’ve got time. Just continue to be you, keep God first, and go from there.
