What inspired the use of that sweet potato extract?
The trend of clean beauty. We said listen, there are so many options because we use a lot of natural ingredients in our products. So, we provided three different facial cleansers that address dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin, combination skin. We also have chamomile, shea butter, coconut butter, and charcoal black soap, which is my favorite because I have very oily skin. So that’s really what inspired it, the other natural ingredients that will nourish and provide the skin with an even tone.

Walk us through the products.
We have a full portfolio for Ambi. We have a set of cleansers, a toner, moisturizers, and a treatment line, that is a cream to address the dark spots that we get from hyperpigmentation. We also have serums.

In the cleansers is where you’ll find the sweet potatoes, and there are several kinds. We have a foaming cleanser and we have an exfoliating wash, which is really addressing those that have acne-prone skin. And then we have a toner, you can use after you cleanse or to refresh. We have one moisturizer, but we’ll be launching another one with the sweet potato complex next year including SPF.

How do you use social media to build brand awareness?
Social media is everything. It’s engagement and making sure that we are in touch with our consumers. It’s a two-way conversation. We post things people comment on, we listen, we respond. We pivot and make decisions based on [responses]. We may have this huge campaign, and it may not work, but with social media, we’ll hear about it in real-time. If it works, we should be doing more of it.

We’re also engaging a dermatologist to provide an opportunity for dialogue that consumers can ask questions similar to, “what’s happening to my skin,” outside of just recommending our product. So, there’s education and information.

Premium quality and affordably priced at $5.00, these cleansers are available at mass market retailers, Target, Amazon and Walgreens, and ambi.com.
