The state of R&B is often a hot topic, and this time it is once again trending because of a provocative statement that Joe Budden recently made.
On an episode of “The Joe Budden Podcast” last week, Budden said that he believes all the new generation male R&B artists are “trash.” He also noted that the women are running circles around the men, and they seriously need to step it up.
Many other people in the industry and on social media co-signed Budden, but R&B legend Tank had different feelings on the state of R&B. In an Instagram video posted on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, Tank let it be known that Budden’s statements were far from the truth.
“Joe … Joseph. Don’t do this,” Tank said in the video. “My friend, my brother, don’t you do this. Don’t you sit up there and say the new generation of male R&B artists is trash, don’t you do that. Just say the women are having a moment. Just give them their followers without trying to put us in the grave.”
Tank highlighted some male artists who are holding down the genre like Brent Faiyaz, Yung Bleu, Giveon, and Lucky Daye.
“Them brothers is dope,” he added before telling Budden not to call them “trash.”
He went on to say that the women in R&B should be celebrated without tearing down their male counterparts and that the men will soon have their moment too.
