Wale's Chicago performance brought a big surprise for 1 lucky lady

The House of Blues turned into an arena of love after Wale organized a surprise proposal in the middle of his performance Monday night. The proposal occurred after the Nigerian wordsmith asked the audience “Are there any couples in the house tonight?” during his sold-out show.

He proceeded to invite a couple from the VIP area. At that moment, Chicago actor, Corey Williams, kneeled on a stage decked with flowers and asked his girlfriend, Ivy, for her hand in marriage.


“I just want to tell you, I want you to be my person forever. In front of this whole city of Chicago. In front of your mom and dad up top, to all your friends, Ivy,” Williams said while getting on one knee.

“Say yes, say yes,” the crowd chanted. Then shortly after the DJ announced, “She said yes,” Wale allowed the couple to snuggle on a couch centered on the stage as he performed his hit single, “Matrimony.”


The proposal wasn’t the only expression of love throughout the concert that night. Wale continuously reiterated how much gratitude he felt for an audience who stood in bitterly cold temperatures to enjoy his performance.

“It’s cold as s— and y’all still sold this out for me,” he announced to the crowd. “I love y’all.”

The Washington D.C. native’s “Under a Blue Moon Tour” was the perfect melting pot for fans who bore an appreciation for his underground tracks, avid listeners who were only familiar with chart-topping records, and consistent supporters who kept up with his decade-long career.

“I’m a [true fan] from the beginning, “ said Erica Rodgers, who was overjoyed to see Wale in concert for the first time.
