NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman has unwittingly become the architect of a budding family sports dynasty. His daughter, Trinity Rodman, has just become the highest-paid pro women’s soccer player of all time. And she’s just a rookie.
It has been an emotional and power-packed year for the 19-year-old. In 2021, she became the youngest player ever — she was chosen second overall — drafted into the National Women’s Soccer League. Not long thereafter, Trinity Rodman erupted in tears when she saw that her estranged father, whom she hadn’t communicated with in years, was in attendance at her inaugural game with the pro soccer league.
That rare public hug between Dennis and Trinity Rodman must have been like jet fuel to her soul because daughter Rodman went on to set the league ablaze, winning Rookie of the Year and leading her Washington Spirit squad to the 2022 championship.
Furthermore, Rodman was also named the Young Player of the Year and capped off a spectacular year by being invited to play on the national team, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT).
If that weren’t enough, here’s even more momentous moments for the soccer prodigy: she is just one of six Black women to ever be drafted in the first round. Also, when the then-18-year-old made her professional debut with the Spirit in April 2021, Rodman immediately made history as the youngest American goalscorer in league history — just minutes after entering the game.
With credentials like that after her inaugural season, Rodman and her agent felt justifiably confident about negotiating a significant raise from her $42K base pay in 2021.
Rodman will now earn over $1.1 million for the next three seasons — which is even more than living legend Megan Rapinoe hauls in annually.
