Dr. Frita discusses key health components in her book ‘Under Pressure’

What should men know about high blood pressure and strokes?

What men should know is that being sick or having a diagnosis does not make you weak. I think that a lot of men and very often with men in the Black community, they don’t want to go in and be told by some stranger or some doctor that they’re doing something wrong, or they have this problem, or you’re going to have this problem for life. Men don’t like being told what to do or being made to feel that you have an ailment that’s going to make you less than. What I really want men to know is that by not going to the doctor, just because you don’t know that you have a problem, it doesn’t make the problem go away. It only makes it worse, and it makes it more likely that you can have some long-term complications and not do well.
