One of DeKalb County’s previous school stops was at Indian Creek Elementary, where 290 total students, family and staff members received the COVID-19 vaccination. Over half of the vaccinated people at that event were children and many people like Clarkston, Georgia, Mayor Beverly H. Burks were also in attendance. There were 171 people who received their first dose, 33 people received their second dose and 86 people received their booster shots at the event.

“COVID has had a huge impact on the community from a financial and educational and just a personal standpoint,” Lewis said. “I think vaccination is the best way out of the pandemic. The more people we can get vaccinated, the less transmission that there will be and the less burden on the health care system and ideally, the more lives saved.”
