Coming off as successful a year musically as he could have, highlighted by 11-charted Billboard songs from his album Montero, being recognized as one of three GQ 2021 Men of the Year and releasing music videos with as much buzz as Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s “WAP” in 2020, Lil Nas X didn’t win in either Entertainer of the Year, Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song or Outstanding Male Artist, three categories he was nominated in.

The Nigerian singer who exploded in 2021 with her feature on Wizkid’s “Essence” lost in the Outstanding New Artist category to Saweetie. Many music listeners would argue Saweetie’s breakout single was “My Type” from 2019, and not 2021’s “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat.
