Thirteen-year-old Alena Wicker has been accepted to a medical school program only a year after graduating from high school.


Wicker shared the news on her Instagram saying “I graduated High school LAST YEAR at 12 years old and here I am one year later I’ve been accepted into Med School at 13. I’m a junior in college. I’ve worked so hard to reach my goal and live my dreams.”

She also showed love to her mother, who she says was instrumental in her success..


“You gave me every opportunity possible to be successful, Wicker said. “You cheered me on, wiped my tears, gave me Oreos when I needed comfort, you never allowed me to settle, disciplined me when I needed . You are the best mother a kid could ever ask for.”

Wicker was accepted into Burroughs Wellcome Scholars Early Assurance Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Heersink School of Medicine. The program is a partnership with HBCUs across Alabama and the medical school, and provides early acceptance to students who meet the requirements.

According to the Washington Post, Wicker is currently a student at Arizona State University and Oakwood University, and she’s working toward earning two separate undergraduate degrees in biological sciences.
