After Paramount Global scrapped the sale of BET, 50 Cent — one of several bidders — spoke out about the situation.
Tyler Perry was considered to be the front-runner for acquiring the network, but he refused to raise his $2B bid to meet Paramount’s asking price of $3B. On Aug. 16, Paramount Global notified bidders that they were canceling the sale of the network.
In May 2023, news surfaced that 50 Cent, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenya Barris were interested in buying the network, and were making a major push to get a deal done. Diddy and Byron Allen were interested in buying the network as well.
The other potential bidders have been quiet since the news, but of course, 50 Cent couldn’t go long without saying something about the failed sale of the network. On Aug. 18, the rapper made a statement on Instagram, posting a screenshot of him and Shaq with a headline that read “Shaquille O’Neal and 50 Cent fail to secure $3,000,000,000 worth buy out as 53yo legend makes $2 billion refusal.”
“We will get them next time, @shaq that s— wasn’t worth 3,000,000,000,” 50 Cent said.
Shaq posted a screenshot of the same picture on his Instagram with the caption, “@50cent we’ll get em next time.”
