Our favorite first family, the Obamas, are continuing to stay busy with a myriad of projects in and out of Hollywood.
Their latest venture via their company, Higher Ground Productions, sees them serving as executive producers of an upcoming Netflix thriller called Leave The World Behind starring Academy Award-winning actors Mahershala Ali and Julia Roberts, Myha’la Herrold, and Academy Award-nominated actor Ethan Hawke.
Based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam, the story revolves around a couple, Amanda and Clay Sandford (Roberts and Hawke), who rent a fancy home for the weekend when two strangers, G.H. and Ruth Scott (Ali and Herrold) show up in the middle of the night claiming to the be the owners of the home and needing to take shelter alongside the Sandfords after a devastating cyberattack.
Soon thereafter, the Sandfords, along with their teenage children, find themselves taking refuge from a growing cyberattack that becomes more terrifying by the minute. Both families are forced to face the crisis together and figure out what’s next after the world as they know it is no more.
Described as an apocalyptic suspense thriller, the screenplay was written and directed by famed “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, who also executive produces with The Obamas, Tonia Davis, Daniel M. Stillman, and Nick Krishnamurthy.
Leave the World Behind is set to hit select theaters on Nov. 22 and will make its streaming debut via Netflix on Dec. 8.
