The Drake-J. Cole collaboration “First Person Shooter” has easily been the standout track from Drizzy’s latest album, For All the Dogs.
An instant fan favorite with many people believing that the Dreamville boss got the better of his Canadian friend, the song shot to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart to give Cole his first No. 1 single but Cole recently expressed that he wished it weren’t so.
During a recent appearance on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast, Cole confessed that part of him wishes an “alley-00p” from Drake wasn’t his first chart topper and that he would have been just fine if “IDGAF” featuring Yeat, which came in at No. 2, would have pulled ahead.
“If it would’ve went No. 2, it wouldn’t have mattered,” said Cole. “I wouldn’t have felt no way. If the other song would’ve went No. 1, it’s like, bruh, I’m cool. I’d almost feel better not having my first No. 1 being off a Drake alley-oop, you know what I mean? I love Drake and I love that I’m a part of that moment with him with Michael Jackson.
“But it’s like, bruh, I’m grateful I’m a part of it, but if that other song would’ve went No. 1, n—-, I’m still grateful I’m a part of it,” he continued. “I wasn’t at home like, ‘Come on y’all! Pick up the streams, man! We gotta beat this m———’ Yeat! Come on!’ Nah, I wasn’t doing that.”
While the song is Cole’s first No. 1 single on the Hot 100, it was the 13th for Drake, a number that ties him with Michael Jackson for most overall by a solo male artist.
Drake still has a little ways to go if he wants the crown for most number ones by any artist overall as Rihanna is ahead of him with 14, Mariah Carey is at 19, and The Beatles top the list with 20.
