It’s been a week since Ja Morant returned from his 25-game suspension, and the Memphis Grizzlies have not lost a game yet, winning their last four.

That streak almost came to an end on Dec. 26 against the New Orleans Pelicans, but a game-sealing dunk by Morant led his team to a victory in overtime.

After the dunk, Morant celebrated by pointing his index fingers toward the crowd and doing a two-step. Many social media users assumed that he was making gun signals with his hands.

Though people thought that Morant may have been throwing up gun signs, Morant set the record straight on X when he reposted a video of the LSU football team doing the same celebration dance he did, which is a cultural staple in Louisiana.

Others who understood the concept of the celebration came to Morant’s defense.

Morant was suspended for 25 games for flashing a gun on Instagram Live in a car, after being suspended for eight games for doing the same thing earlier in the same season at a Denver strip club.

Since Morant has returned this season, he’s been named the Western Conference Player of the Week, averaging 29 points per game.
