Waka Flocka Flame has never been shy to show his support for Donald Trump, and now he’s asking the former president to get rid of a holiday.
On Jan. 20, Flame went on X, formerly known as Twitter, and sent a short message to Trump about Columbus Day.
“Dear Trump abolish Christopher Columbus Day … As a what’s called Black man in the United States this holiday is a spit in our faces … Thanks from Waka Flocka Flame and the People,” Flame said.
Many social media users had things to say about Flame’s tweet, most notably why he’s asking someone who isn’t in office to abolish a holiday. Even if he was president, he wouldn’t have the power to abolish a federal holiday.
First, Trump isn't the president. Second, you think this white supremacist (Trump) that you co-signed would really do that? https://t.co/RDuVNrLkMB

Trump repeatedly affirmed Christopher Columbus Day, called people who wanted to teach the truth about him "radical activists"/ "extremists," and rejected Indigenous People's Day. He also signed EOs to encourage prosecuting people who destroy Columbus statues & build more. https://t.co/BNQzVk2qqp pic.twitter.com/nG0wmUaHvB

It’s black folks REALLY thinking that Trump cares about us that makes me big sigh. Even if Trump were the President he would NEVER abolish Columbus Day, he denounced taking down confederate statues so where exactly are y’all getting this thought process from? https://t.co/ZORU52tQPq

In October 2023, Flame tweeted “TRUMP2024,” and then posted a picture of him standing next to Trump in front of the presidential seal.

It was a complete turnaround from 2015 when the rapper tweeted “F— Donald J. Trump.” In an interview with Sirius XM that year, Waka said he didn’t vote for Trump because “he’s for money. In a time like this, we need somebody that’s for the people, and Trump is definitely not for the people.”
