Killer Mike addresses arrest after historic win at Grammys

The Grammy Award-winning rapper is calling the incident ‘a speed bump’

Killer Mike is breaking his silence on the alleged assault of a security guard that led to his arrest after winning big at the Grammys yesterday … sort of.

On Monday, Feb.5, the “Michael” rapper called in to “The Big Tigger Show” and gave his thoughts on the historic night but only vaguely referenced the arrest incident.

“We hit a speed bump, and then we headed back to the party,” Mike said.

Choosing to not speak further on the incident, Mike instead wanted to stay on topic regarding his sweeping of the rap categories and taking home the trophy for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Scientists & Engineers” featuring Andre 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, as well as the award he “really coveted,” Best Rap Album, for Michael.

“Three Grammys. 20 years in the game. 48 years old,” he proudly boasted. “Beat out everybody in the thing. He beat the best of the best, so all you could say is he was one of the best. The best album in the 50th year of hip-hop came from Atlanta, Georgia, from a man who will be 50 years old in three years.”

After his rousing celebratory speech in acceptance of the Best Rap Album, fans were shocked to see footage on social media a short time later of the rapper being escorted through the Crypto.com arena, in handcuffs, by a number of officers.

According to TMZ, Mike’s detainment centered around a physical altercation with a security guard that he allegedly knocked down for not moving out of his way as he made his way through the backstage area.

Per Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department records, Mike was arrested at 3:20 p.m. PST, booked, and released on his own recognizance about four hours later.

He is due back in court regarding the incident on Feb. 29.
