“Sunday Service” is not for Funk Flex and he’s letting it be known he’s siding with the Bronx in the simmering beef between Ice Spice and Latto.
The legendary Hot 97 radio personality and DJ recently shared a telling text message with his nearly four million Instagram followers that made his allegiance clear.
The text shows a conversation with Kevin Valentini, aka as Inca, a music executive for Latto’s label, RCA Records. In the text, Valentini lets Flex know that Latto’s new song “Sunday Service,” a diss aimed at Ice Spice, will be dropping this weekend and wanted to have Flex’s support in playing the record before the New York City icon made his answer clear in no uncertain terms.
“I don’t know if I can play that, my brother! I’m from the Bronx!” he replied in the text.
“HAD TO LET @INCA_NY/@RCARECORDS KNOW THAT I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE ICE SPICE FAN CLUB! PLUS I’M FROM THE BRONX! [crying with laughter emojis],” Flex wrote in the caption of the post.
The beef between the two rappers began almost a year ago when Latto was accused of copying Ice Spice’s signature pose in photos.
Latto then had an image of Ice Spice in the background of a video snippet she put out while rapping the line “I just want a one-on-one, don’t know why she so nervous.” Ice Spice quickly retaliated with her own diss track, “Think U The S— (Fart)”, which she confirmed was directed at Latto in an X chat.
“Seeing that I’m in the back of your weak-a– snippet,” Ice said. “So I was like, ‘Wait a second — that’s me?’ So I’m like, ‘OK, since we’re talking about me, let’s talk about me,’ and I dropped that.”
“I was like, ‘This has to be fake,” she continued. “This is AI, but b—— be bold, so I was like, ‘All right, we’re being bold today.’”
Latto has since traveled to Ice Spice’s hometown of the Bronx, New York, to shoot the video to “Sunday Service” in addition to Instagram flexing by posting videos of herself riding through Ice Spice’s borough rapping along to the diss track.
