Tyler Perry believes Kelly Rowland is a natural “leading lady.”
The 43-year-old singer stars in Perry’s s new Netflix legal drama, Mea Culpa, and the acclaimed director has confessed to being wowed by her acting talents.
“We all know her as this phenomenal superstar who traveled all the world with music. … She’s a leading lady; the camera loves her,” Perry told “Extra.”
Rowland — who first shot to fame as part of Destiny’s Child — also relished working on the film. “I’m so thankful to Tyler for trusting me with the space and I can’t wait to do it again,” she shared.
Rowland filmed a steamy sex scene with co-star Trevonte Rhodes for the new movie. And the chart-topping star revealed that speaking to an intimacy coach before shooting the scene helped her to feel more comfortable.
“We wanted it to be memorable,” she added.
Rowland previously enjoyed huge success alongside Beyoncé and Michelle Williams in Destiny’s Child.
The group hasn’t released an album since Destiny Fulfilled in 2004 — but they all remain hugely supportive of each other and their personal ventures.
Rowland previously told ELLE magazine: “So many women say, ‘Oh my god, I love your relationship with the girls’ … and it’s because we all genuinely want to see each other be great and go after things that we’re passionate about. And if we feel like one [of us] needs a little push, we do that, whether they’re ready for it or not. It’s about being there and making sure they push themselves.
“You have to be able to have that honesty, love and admiration for each other. I think that female tribes are crucial to life, to everything.”
