Atlanta, GA, has challenged Los Angeles’ hold as the center of film and television entertainment. With multiple studios and a surplus of celebrations of Black talent, it has become the hotspot for Black creativity in television and film. The Black Women in Film Network (BWFN) is a major resource for talent, creatives and executives looking to connect with new projects and collaboration opportunities. For twenty-seven years, the organization has proudly honored the best and brightest in Black female leadership and ingenuity in all areas of TV and film production.
BWFN recently announced the 2024 honorees to be celebrated during the 9th annual BWFN awards luncheon, which include popular actress Gail Bean along with celebrated director/producer Lena Waithe, media mogul Mona Scott-Young, creator and showrunner Raamla Mohamed and Amber Rasberry, senior director of film development for Amazon Studios. The luncheon is being powered by Cvent and will be held at the Loudermilk Conference Center (40 Courtland St NE) in Atlanta, GA. In addition to the luncheon, there will be panel discussions and workshops with industry leaders, talent, and tastemakers open to sharing information and giving their perspectives on the state of the television and film industry today.
“To be acknowledged by BWFN, a network of black women whose rise in the industry I’ve studied, admired, and prospered from, is the highest of honors! I’ll forever be thankful to God, my ancestors, and the Black Women Film Network,” Bean said in a statement.
Bean is celebrating her honor from BWFN and the news that she has been cast in a spinoff that will bring her “Snowfall” character back to life for her fanbase. Bean’s character Wanda Bell on “Snowfall” was a hit. Still, audiences also loved her as Roulette on the huge cult hit “P Valley” (Starz).
