Rochelle Humes “shocked” her friends by having children.
Humes — who first found fame when she was a child as part of S Club Juniors before going on to be a part of the Saturdays — surprised those around her when she tied the knot with JLS singer Mavin Humes and had children Alaia-Mai, Valentina and Blake, with him because she had never seemed to be about that traditional “formula” of starting a family.
“It was always like, ‘Oh, you’re the career girl, aren’t you?’. A lot of my friends had that real ‘This is what you do: you leave school, you meet someone, you get married, you have a baby’ — and that was never me. That was never what I wanted, that formula,” she told Women’s Health.
“Whenever I had a baby, I think it shocked my friendship group a little bit,” Humes added.
The “Ego” hitmaker also admitted that she didn’t ever anticipate having kids until about the age she is now rather than in her 20s.
“I probably didn’t think I’d have kids till about now — and I’ve just turned 35 … You can never plan these things. Like my mum says,’ Make a plan, God laughs!'” Humes said.
But in her friendship group, Humes explained each member has their own role. She jokingly likens them to the 1990s girl group the Spice Girls, which was made up of Ginger, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Posh.
“‘Like we’re the Spice Girls! She’s the flirty one! She’s the career girl! She’s the homemaker! I think my superpower has become the fact that people think I’m not switched on. There was a time in my life where it would annoy me!” she said.
