R&B singers and songwriters Joe and Tamia entered the music industry in the 1990s. The two vocalists would ultimately join forces for a United States tour that made a recent stop at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre. The intimate setting in the venue provided an ideal backdrop for the pair to perform many of their hits since their debut albums.
Tamia, now a mother of two and wife of NBA legend Grant Hill, still has that unique combination of vocal versatility and powerful delivery that made her a star. Highlights of her opening set included her hits “I Can’t Get Enough of You,” “Stranger in My House,” “So Into You,” and “Me.”
Joe, who wore a silver jacket, black shirt, and black leather pants, performed many of his famous collaborations by himself, which included “Make It Last Forever,” his duet with Mariah Carey that is a remake of Keith Sweat’s late 1980’s hit of the same name, and “Still Not A Player,” his collaboration with deceased hip-hop artist from New York City, Big Pun, which contains an interpolation of Joe’s hit “Don’t Wanna Be a Player.”
One of the highlights of the show came when Joe played acoustic guitar on the song “All That I Am.” Other solo hits he performed included his chart-topping “Stutter,” “I Wanna Know,” “Love Scene,” and “All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do).”
Joe and Tamia have seven remaining dates on the tour, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and St. Louis.
Je’Caryous Johnson’s “Super Freak: The Rick James Story” and the Power Moves Tour with Sarah Jakes Roberts stopped by Kings Theatre in April, with Sesame Street Live! Say Hello and the R&B Money Tour headlined by Tank featuring Keri Hilson and Carl Thomas hits the stage in May and R&B icons, The Isley Brothers, perform in June.
Kings Theatre offers a premium experience option with lavish balcony box seating and perks that include a special entry line, access to Ambassador Speakeasy areas located on the first and second floors, private restrooms, and more.
