Angel Reese, the flamboyant former collegiate basketball superstar, has a new home, a new nickname, a new star teammate, and now a new coach.

Reese, 21, who was called the “Bayou Barbie” during her two-year tenure with the LSU Tigers, is now called the “Chi Barbie” after being drafted in the first round by the Chicago Sky of the WNBA. Reese, who won the national championship in 2023, will battle in the low post alongside former archrival Kamilla Cardoso, who played for the title-winning South Carolina Gamecocks in 2024.

Cardoso and Reese just learned that her new coach will be former “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star Tamera “Ty” Young.

Young displayed elation when she signed the contract to join the Chicago Sky staff headed by head coach Teresa Witherspoon, a WNBA legend and Hall of Fame inductee.

She continued by saying, “On April 9, 2008, I was drafted to the WNBA. (Atlanta Dream)

On April 9, 2024, I signed my first coaching contract with my most extended tenure team, The Chicago Sky. Exactly 16 years apart. I am grateful for the opportunity then and now. 🙏🏽💜😎.” Angel Reese's new WNBA coach is a former 'Love & Hip Hop' star

Witherspoon, one of the founding members of the WNBA in 1997, crafted her legendary career with the New York Liberty. Now settled in another marque city, Witherspoon is delighted to have Young bring her wealth of experience to the Sky.

“I am very excited to welcome Ty to our coaching staff and have her on the sidelines beside me this season. With over a decade of WNBA experience and deep history with the Sky, Ty brings energy, passion, and spirit to inspire us all. I can’t wait to watch her mentor, lead, and coach our players this season,” Weatherspoon said of Ty’s recruitment.
