Tyrese recently came to the defense of Brian McKnight after Rickey Smiley sent a message to McKnight’s kids saying that they have his support. In an Instagram post, McKnight wrote that his biological children were a “product of sin.”

“In order to live a life that you love, you have to get rid of the evil and the negativity – even if that evil and negativity is related [to you],” McKnight said.

“I just recently watched a video from Rickey Smiley, who I actually have the utmost love and respect for that brother,” Tyrese said. “I want to say to you that it’s unfair, in my grown a– man opinion, to say that that man and his ex-wife and the mother of kids which are now grown adults past 30 years old — whatever their specific dynamic is — there’s a bunch of things that have been said and done over the years that is nobody’s business and has contributed to where they are.”

“This is not fair to say ‘Well, they my kids’ or ‘They grown, they’re adults, so I’m never going to turn my back on my kids. I ain’t never gone not provide.’ Kids out here be saying some f—– up s—. Kids out here be crossing you and doing and saying and going above and beyond to cross you,” the Fast & Furious star continued.

“I literally know Brian. I have not had one conversation with Brian McKnight about his wife, his kids, or anything that went down between them — nor is it my business. Nor is it my place to ask ‘What happened man, what’s going on?’ None of my business,” Tyrese stated. “What I am addressing and talking about is I feel like it is not fair to act as if relationships between men and their children that at some point become adults can’t fall apart and can’t become extremely volatile and toxic.”

Rickey Smiley shows support, but Tyrese disagrees

In a social media post, Smiley showed support for McKnight’s biological children.

“I just want to say to Brian McKnight’s kids, the ones that he said were born in evil, born out of evil, whatever he said. I want to let you know you have a lot of support here,” Smiley said.

“You are not thrown away; you are not garbage,” Smiley stated. “You are loved; you are to be respected … we are not here to try to replace your father … but we can be something to you.”
