In the same week that someone was shot near Drake’s mansion, another person tried to break into the compound.

Toronto Police Service told USA Today in an email that they dispatched officers to the rap superstar’s home at approximately 2 p.m. on May 8 after an individual “attempted to gain access to the property,” police spokesperson Ashley Visser stated.

The individual was detained but not taken to jail. However, under the Ontario Mental Health Act, a suspect is not treated as a criminal but is taken for psychological evaluation. This happens if the officers believe the suspect is “apparently suffering from [a] mental disorder” that could result in serious bodily harm, the Ontario government’s website states.

Fans speculate the shooting and break-in attempt stems from the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud

Many pop culture watchers theorize that the shooting and break-in attempt are ramifications of the vicious rap beef brewing between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. In a few of the diss tracks, family members of the hip-hop stars became collateral damage in the war of words. Lamar talked about Drake’s children and parents and even disparaged Drake’s paternal instincts.

Some esteemed members of the hip-hop community have criticized the rap beef, fearing that violence could ensue as a result of the feud, which has already happened indirectly.
