Keke Palmer recently raised a question about Kendrick Lamar’s lyrics in his Drake diss track, “Not Like Us.” In a candid Instagram video, the actress expressed confusion over the term “69 God,” a phrase used by Lamar in the song. Palmer, emphasizing that her inquiry was not meant as criticism, expressed curiosity about the implications of the term, which she understood as a symbol of reciprocity.
Palmer’s comments
“Now this is no shade, no tea,” Palmer stated, “But I have a question, okay? I know the rap kids, they do a lot of very clever little lines, especially somebody like Kendrick. But I really am curious of what’s so bad about being a ’69 God’? As far as I knew, 69 was something that just meant that you’re reciprocal, right? So if you’re a ’69 God,’ what’s so bad about that? I must be missing something.”
Possible interpretations
The term “69 God” could also be a reference to controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, known for his legal troubles, including a 2015 sexual assault case. This interpretation suggests a possible double entendre in Lamar’s lyrics, critiquing Drake by associating him with Tekashi’s negative image.
Despite the ongoing discussion around the diss track, Drake has not directly responded in his recent music releases, which include features on Camila Cabello’s latest album, indicating a potential cooling off in their musical feud.
