Established in May, this pioneering initiative aims to foster a vibrant network for individuals across the African diaspora who are passionate about AI.

Founding vision and mission

The consortium’s mission is to cultivate a supportive community where members can share experiences, knowledge, and resources related to AI. It seeks to enable Black individuals to contribute significantly to the advancement of AI while addressing the technology’s current challenges and ethical concerns.

Leadership and expertise

Philippe “SHOCK” Matthews, a research scientist focused on GPT development and metaphysics, explores the impacts of trauma within the Black diaspora to promote healing and understanding.

Goals and impact

The consortium not only addresses the racial biases present in current AI technologies but also demonstrates the active interest and involvement of the Black community in AI. Through educational and mentorship opportunities, it aims to nurture a multigenerational group of tech pioneers.

By leveraging the expertise of its members, the Black AI Consortium is set to explore AI’s potential to enhance the social, physical, and economic conditions of diverse communities, making AI a tool for  empowerment.
