Halle Berry is reportedly seeking sole custody of her 10-year-old son amid a bitter dispute with her ex-husband Olivier Martinez.

The Hollywood actor is believed to have filed court papers asking to be granted full physical and legal custody of their son Maceo after previously sharing custody with his dad Martinez. According to TMZ.com, the documents state Berry is worried her ex’s “turbulent and detrimental behavior” has affected their little boy.

The website reports Berry expressed concerns that Olivier is prioritizing Maceo’s sports practice over his education and is refusing to hire a tutor to help with his schoolwork.

According to TMZ, Berry claims Maceo has “serious behavior and learning problems” and has fallen behind at school. She also alleges he becomes “angry and combative” following visits with his father.

The Catwoman actor said to be asking for sole custody to enable her to make solo decisions about Maceo’s education and therapy, adding she’s not a “perfect person” but her parenting has been “exemplary.”

Berry and Martinez married in 2013, and their son was born later that year. They split in 2015 after two years of marriage, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2023 following a series of disagreements over the raising of their son.

The Oscar-winning actor is also mother to daughter Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubry, who she dated from 2005 to 2010.  She is currently in a relationship with singer-songwriter Van Hunt after they became close during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Berry previously revealed Maceo is so happy with the couple’s relationship that he staged an impromptu “commitment ceremony” for them.

“This was a ceremony by an 8-year-old in the car’s back seat who said, ‘Mom, you should get married to him.’ I said, ‘Really, I should marry him?’ ” Berry recalled.

“He said, ‘Yeah, I pronounce you man and wife.’ So we’re like, ‘Oh, OK. We’re married!’ But we’re not married. So, that’s our commitment ceremony,” she added.
