50 Cent made fun of his rap compatriot Tony Yayo for listening to Drake music instead of Kendrick Lamar.
In a video the “Power” and “BMF” producer posted for his 34 million Instagram followers, Fifty gives his vast fanbase a glimpse into the jet-setting lifestyle as they boarded a private plane to Vegas.
In one of the pivotal scenes, Fifty asked Tony Yayo what he was listening to on his headphones. Yayo lied and said he was rocking to Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX.
“You get a pass if you’re bumping Kendrick,” 50 quipped, before yanking the headphones off to find out what he’s really listening to.
“Man, that’s Drake you’ve got in there,” he exclaimed while laughing.
Drake did not lose the battle in 50 Cent’s mind
Despite the fact that the vast majority of hip hop nation declared Kendrick Lamar the clear victor in his seismic rap battle with Drake, 50 refused to say that Drake took an “L.”
Reminiscing on the summer feud in an interview with Billboard magazine, Fifty said Drake actually won — in a way.
“They said he lost — okay,” Fifty said. “But what exactly did he lose? The man made over $300 million on his last tour. That’s not losing by any stretch. He didn’t lose a muthaf—-ing thing.”
50 Cent marvels over Kendrick Lamar’s lyricism and artistry
He also expressed admiration for the complexities and hidden layers in Lamar’s lyrics and visual artistry, particularly as they pertain to dissing his rivals, mainly Drake.
“It wasn’t just about lyrics. Kendrick was playing chess. The car from good kid, m.A.A.d city showing up in the video? That was next-level. You didn’t see that kind of strategy in hip-hop before,” Fifty told Billboard magazine.
