Drake has made multiple dubious decisions in recent weeks, hip-hop fans believe, and this includes the fact that he trolled a viral lyric from Kendrick Lamar’s smash album GNX.
On the album that dropped on Nov. 22, K. Dot shouted out his longtime collaborator DJ Mustard, whose real name is Dijon Isaiah McFarlane. On the song “TV Off,” Lamar notably screamed Mustard’s name for five seconds, saying “Mustaaarrrrddd,” which has triggered an online meme-fest ever since.
It’s become apparent to the hip-hip nation that the trouncing Drizzy took during this past summer’s heavyweight rap battle has impacted his thought processes. Drake climbed onto the LosPollosTV’s livestream as they played songs off GNX on Dec. 3, and wrote the word “CUSTAAAAARRRRD” in the chat box.
Lamar’s GNX album and songs dominate Billboard’s charts
GNX debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard pop charts, selling over 319,000 units despite giving no advance notice that he was going to drop the album. According to the music magazine, it becomes Lamar’s fifth album to top the charts, following Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers [2022], DAMN. [2017], untitled unmastered [2016] and To Pimp a Butterfly [2015].
Moreover, all 12 GNX tracks enter the Billboard Hot 100 with all the songs ranking inside the top 30. Seven of those singles are in the top 10, including the entire top five. Only The Beatles, Drake and Taylor Swift have monopolized the entire top five in the same week in the history of the charts.
Many fans convey disgust with Drake’s recent behavior
As fans clamor for K. Dot’s new music, fans expressed dismay at Drizzy trolling Kendrick on Twitch streams instead of clapping back at him in the studio where rap battles have always gone down.
“Same [dude] who was calling other rappers ‘Twitter fingers’ is online yapping instead of making a record,” one person surmised,
“That’s just like Drake. Make another very odd move on the internet,” another person opined.
“Every day Drake shows us exactly how corny he is smh,” another detractor wrote.
“There’s literally no defending him at this point lol he’s legit acting like a manchild,” a fourth person added.
Others on X weighed in on what many fans characterize as bizarre behavior from Drake. Remember, Drizzy just filed a pre-lawsuit petition against Universal Music Group, Spotify and Lamar for allegedly doctoring and boosting the numbers on the instant classic cut, “Not Like Us.” Drake also took umbrage that UMG released the song knowing that Lamar claimed Drizzy is a pedophile.
