One of Kendrick Lamar‘s most successful years to date was undoubtedly 2024, and it appears that the hitmaker has no intention of slowing down in 2025. He released his diss track “Not Like Us,” where he sent shots at Drake and his OVO gang, back in May. The song quickly rose to the top of the charts while racking up streaming records, becoming a fan favorite. Now the song has another historic accolade to add to Lamar’s resume.
Even though the song was released a few months ago, it is clearly still very popular. It recently achieved a staggering 1 billion Spotify plays, according to Yahoo! Despite only being available for 250 days, “Not Like Us” is the first diss track ever to accomplish this feat, according to Spotify. It’s also one of the songs that has received 1 billion streams the quickest. According to reports, Lil Nas X’s 2021 song “Industry Baby” starring Jack Harlow took 191 days, and Drake’s 2018 smash song “God’s Plan” took 226 days followed by “Not Like Us.”
Lamar dominates Biggest Rappers list
But this is by no means the only accomplishment Lamar can be proud of these days. He was one of the top rappers on Billboard’s list of the Biggest Rappers of the Century earlier this week. SZA, his collaborator, also gave him great marks on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show lately. The singer made it apparent that she would view a collaborative album with Lamar as an honor when asked if she would consider doing so.
“I would love that,” SZA explained. “I think that would be amazing.” She continued, piling on the compliments. “He’s such a genius, and part of his genius is him being so elusive, and so mysterious, and I love it. I don’t know what’s going on as much as you don’t know what’s going on. When ‘Luther’ came on, I said, ‘OK, that’s the vocals we’re using, period,’ and same with Gloria: I said, ‘OK,’ and I love that,” she recalled. “I’m just trusting all of his expertise and being thrust into these moments and spotlight and saying yes, and he’s so good at saying yes but staying grounded, so I’m just like, ‘Teach me, sensei, what you know.'”
But before we get a SZA and Kendrick Lamar joint album, Lamar will rock the Super Bowl next month. Do you think he perform “Not Like Us” at the halftime show? Let us know in the comments.
