Former LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy is wanted on charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run for allegedly causing two other cars to crash, killing a military veteran in Lafourche Parish, according to Louisiana State Police. According to a news statement from the department, troopers are in contact with Lacy and his lawyer to get him to turn himself in.

The collision occurred south of New Orleans on Dec. 17, 2024, on La. 20 close to Perez Lane. Police say Lacy, who is from Lafourche Parish, “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a no-pass zone,” while allegedly traveling south in a 2023 Dodge Charger. The driver of a northbound pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid hitting Lacy. The driver behind the truck also swerved, but to the left, crossing the center line and striking a southbound Kia Sorrento head on, police said.

According to authorities, Lacy, 24, drove around the crash area without stopping to offer assistance, contacting emergency services, or disclosing his involvement in the collision. Herman Hall of Thibodaux, 78, a passenger in the Kia Sorrento, was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

LSU distances itself from Lacy

According to LSU, Lacy was not taking part in Texas Bowl workouts at the time of the collision and had graduated in December. Two days later, he announced that he would be entering the 2025 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-2, 213-pound receiver was no longer eligible to attend college.

Lacy played for two seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette after being a three-star recruit from Thibodaux High. After transferring to LSU, Lacy caught 112 passes for 1,692 yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons. Lacy was LSU’s top receiver this past season, hauling in a career-high 58 passes for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

Lacy is eligible for the 2025 NFL draft, but chances of his being selected — with this legal baggage hanging over his head — are slim at best as teams likely won’t want to attach themselves to bad publicity.
