Despite the fact that President Trump commuted the sentence of legendary Chicago Gangster Disciples founder Larry Hoover, he will not get out of prison anytime in the near future, leaving some of his supporters confused.
Trump’s federal gesture does not impact Hoover’s 200-year state sentence for murder, and Trump cannot commute those.
Larry Hoover named in Rick Ross’ track ‘BMF’
Younger fans will recognize Hoover from Rick Ross’ blockbuster single “BMF: Blowing Money Fast” in 2010, which names Big Meech of the Black Mafia Family and Hoover in the chorus lines.

Larry Hoover’s son grateful to Trump and Kanye West
Nevertheless, Hoover’s son, Larry Hoover Jr., was grateful to folks like Kanye West who advocated for Hoover when he went to the White House to get his father freed from confinement.
“He had a very big part because he started it all off,” Hoover Jr. told TMZ. “Put us on the platform. He took us to the White House on his platform when he didn’t have to do that. He stuck his neck out there. We know he don’t have a problem with sticking his neck out there about what he believes in, and I’m glad he believed in this.”
Hoover Jr. has been looking foward to this moment for a long time. He’s been very vocal about freeing his father from prison, saying this in March 2025 on his Instagram page:
“[Fifty-one] years our family along with my father has been on ice, frozen in time — Waiting for Justice, Waiting for a second chance. My father has spent 5 decades behind bars – almost 30 years in solitary confinement. Yet we are Still standing. Still strong. Still waiting. IT’s TIME to Free My Father Larry Hoover Sr.”
In another IG post, Hoover Jr. conveyed gratitude to Alice Johnson, the Trump administration’s “Pardon Czar.”
It remains to be seen if Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker will follow Trump’s lead and commute his 200-year state prison sentence as well.
President Trump also community NBA YoungBoy
In related news, rap icon NBA YoungBoy received a pardon from President Trump on the same day as Hoover.
The “Valuable Pain” spitter shared his jubilation with his 11 million Instagram followers.
“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building — as a man, as a father, and as an artist,” NBA YoungBoy, aka, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, penned on the post.
“This moment means a lot. It opens the door to a future I’ve worked hard for and I am fully prepared to step into this,” YoungBoy wrote. “Big thanks to the Pardon Czar, Ms. Alice Marie Johnson, for fighting for second chances for so many people, and to my lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, for being in my corner and all your hard work to make this possible. And thank you to everyone who believed in me.”
