That sweet sound emanating in your ears is that of unity brought together by the tie that binds us all … music. For Jay Carter, organizer of the second annual One Music Fest, it’s the one sound that gives him peace as he pushes toward a successful event. Set to take Atlanta by storm at Park Tavern on Aug, 27, Carter took a brief break from the planning to give rolling out the low down.
One Music Fest is entering its second year of existence. How are you planning to take it to the next level?
We’re very excited about the partnership with Park Tavern. There will be nonstop music and eating, so it’s going to be total music and gluttony for 12 hours. Last year’s event felt more like Brooklyn than Atlanta because of the concrete at the venue. So this year, we decided to step it up a notch, and really represent the true spirit of Atlanta.
Why is One Music Fest good for Atlanta?
It’s vital. What people don’t realize is that if One Music Fest wins, we all truly win. There are no multicultural or urban outdoor festivals in the heart of the city. There are different types of music that we all love and share. This event is designed for true music lovers, and that’s really what this city needs more than anything.
Who are some of the artists that we can look forward to seeing onstage?
A lot of great artists like Foreign Exchange, who I’m a huge fan of; Anthony David, who is a local hero; Tortured Soul, and more. Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest is hosting, so I’m very excited about who we have hitting the stage. Oh, and let’s not forget Chrisette Michele. It’s going to be an exciting day.
