It seems that as each day passes, the more self-destructive the African American community becomes. From the violence in Chicago and our major urban areas to the despicable way we treat each other as shown on reality TV, there is a serious inability to value the lives of others as well as our own.
In metro Atlanta this week, social media has been blamed for a horrible attack that left two women recovering from serious burns after having hot oil thrown on them. According to a local news station, it all started with a social media dispute over insults made on Instagram.
According to Smyrna, Ga., police and as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “Ashley Hardy, Jasmine Ragland, Shatericka Barrino and Stori Brown went to the Cumberland Glen Apartments to confront three women over some messages sent via Instagram, an online photo-sharing and social networking service.”
The article also reports that “Zawadi Clark, 20, Myzelle Armstrong, 18, and Mykhal Tait, 20, met the women outside their apartment armed with a baseball bat and a pot of hot grease, the warrant states. The four women got back into their car but before they could escape the trio pried open the front driver’s side door with the bat. Clark then splashed Hardy and Ragland, sitting in the front, with the oil, causing second- and third-degree burns to the women’s legs and arms.”
Ashley Hardy received third-degree burns on her leg and faces possible painful skin grafts or surgery.
Police arrested and charged three women with felony battery: Zawadi Clark, Myzell Armstrong and Mykhal Tait. All are charged with four counts of felony battery. Clark and Armstrong are free on bond but Tait remains incarcerated in the Cobb County Jail.
