Evelyn Lozada Recalls Night of Chad Johnson's Assault

For weeks, Evelyn Lozada refused to talk about her domestic dispute with her husband, Chad Johnson, leaving fans to find answers in the innumerable stories about the attack. But lately, Lozada has been slowly opening up about the assault. In a new interview with People, Lozada finally recalls that fateful night on Aug. 11 that left her marriage and personal life in shambles.

In the article, via RadarOnline, Lozada explains that the infamous day started out normally for the couple.

“I was going to cook dinner: salmon, mashed potatoes and a tomato mozzarella salad,” Lozada said recounting that night. But while Lozada was sorting through groceries, she was shocked to find a receipt for condoms purchased not long after they were married.

“I’m not naive,” said Lozada. “I didn’t think he was going to be perfect, but three weeks after we were married? I felt like he was not even trying.”

The “Basketball Wives” star demanded a divorce that night and, as most know, that’s when Johnson allegedly grabbed her and head-butted her, leaving a laceration that required five stitches.

“I had blood in my eyes, I was tasting it,” she said. “I remember realizing, oh my God, the news is going to get out. I was so humiliated.”

Though Lozada claims that Johnson was a sweetheart throughout most of their relationship (“He was a very romantic and sweet guy”), she says that there was a darker side to Johnson that frightened her, especially when she questioned him about other women.

“I always knew (to back down) when he got that look in his eye. It was scary,” she said.

Since their split, Johnson has apologized and spoken on several occasions about still being in love with Lozada. And though Lozada admits that she still loves Johnson too, she says that his violent temper is something she cannot overlook for love.

“You learn from it… I’ll always have a love for him,” she admitted, but when it comes to physical abuse, “I don’t care what the argument is or who the man is, that should never be tolerated.”
