Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga: Hip-Hop's New Odd Pair

It’s clear that Kendrick Lamar knows a thing or two about charm. Besides making it onto everyone’s “artists to watch  list,” the rising hip-hop newcomer has already established relationships with rap heavyweights like Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Drake and his Aftermath boss, Dr. Dre. And now it looks like Lamar has a new high-profile buddy singing his praises – Lady Gaga.

The odd couple first made their friendship public on Independence Day, when Gaga tweeted Lamar, thanking him for checking in on her and shouted out one of his popular mixtape songs.

@kendricklamar What a sweetie calling me this morning to see how I’m doin. See you soon. love from across the pond.‪#Rigamortis,” tweeted Gaga.

And when Lamar took the stage this past weekend at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, Gaga, who’d just returned from a trip overseas was spotted cheering Lamar on as she watched his set from the sidelines.

After Lamar’s set, Gaga tweeted her praise for his music and shared her anticipation for his debut album.

“@kendricklamar ‪#womenweedandweather listening to The Recipe. Can your new album come out now so i can go out to clubs and dance again,” tweeted Gaga.

And though it may seem like Gaga is a super fan of Lamar’s – and maybe a little bit more, Lamar spoke to The Source after his set and squashed any speculation that he and Gaga are anything other than good buddies.

“That’s a real good friend… a real good friend,” explained Lamar. And as for a possible future collaboration between the two he said, “God willing …. for now I just like the friendship thing.”

We can only imagine how great a Lamar, Dre and Gaga collaboration would sound. And though their friendship may seem odd, they’re not the first set of celebrity friends that left fans baffled. Check out some other Hollywood odd pairs below. – nicholas robinson
