Are the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' Significant? Hear What Oprah Has to Say About Them

On Sunday, May 20,  Oprah Winfrey, the Queen of All Media, addressed Spelman College’s 550 graduates, faculty, family, friends and supporters at the institution’s 125th Commencement Ceremony in Atlanta. In her speech, Winfrey advised the Class of 2012 on three important points: knowing who you are, finding a way to serve [be significant and success will follow] and always doing the right thing.

Oprah opens, “You are me. You represent who I am, who I have been and who I can be in the world … You must find a way to serve. Martin Luther King Jr. said that not everybody can be famous, but everybody can be great, because greatness is determined by service. We live in a world where everybody wants to be famous and where we admire people for just being famous. We think being known brings us value. The truth is all of that will fade in time. In three years, you won’t be able to name the ‘Housewives of Atlanta.’ ”

In case you've already forgotten, here's Season 4's cast: Kim Zolciak, Cynthia Bailey, Phaedra Parks, NeNe Leakes, Kandi Burruss and Sheree Whitfield

In light of the recent petition by Star Jones (a Spelman alumna who was present at the commencement) to boycott “Basketball Wives” spinoff  “Eve and Ocho,” and have it removed from VH’s line-up, along with Vibe magazine featuring “a rabid Evelyn Lozada,” alongside “Real Housewives of Alanta” cast member Kandi Burruss on their June cover (the 2012 Sexy Issue), fans and foes, alike, are standing by to see how much longer the networks will promote the bullying and black-woman-on-black woman crime on this national platform.
