Ace corporate salespeople Steve Butler (Matt Damon) and his partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand), arrive in a small town to secure drilling rights for their natural-gas company. They believe that the economic downslide has sealed the deal for them, but what seems like an easy job becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (John Krasinski), as well as the interest of a local woman (Rosemarie DeWitt). – ruthie hawkins
