A not-so-natural red

It’s a bold move, but, if you’ve got the guts, then go for it. Crayola red, fire engine red, Little Mermaid red … these are all ways to describe this feisty, attention-grabbing hue that Rihanna is currently rocking. If you are in the entertainment, rock or movie industry, then this shade won’t be too hard to pull off.  Make sure you match your outgoing personality to pull it all together.

Dark skin and dark hair

Forget strawberry blond and choose a red that is darker and more flattering. It’s always easier and better to be closer to your natural root color anyway for easier maintenance. Fortunately, red dye lasts longer in darker hair.

Maintenance

Like any lighter hair color, be prepared for some touch ups. Be confident in your decision to go red because, oftentimes, it can be the hardest color to get out. For those with “virgin” hair or hair that has never been processed or colored, it will take to your hair much easier than hair that has been recently dyed with another color. Make sure to get the appropriate products to maintain your color, such as a color-extending shampoo and conditioner and a light hair serum or spray to keep your color healthy and shiny.

What to expect as a new scarlet

Drastic color changes have the potential to bring out your alter ego. Your new hair will be a confidence booster and a conversation starter. Have fun with your new hue and play around with new makeup and wardrobe options.
