The Best Man Holiday
Stars: Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, Regina Hall, Monica Calhoun, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Melissa DeSousa
It’s been 14 long years since we were up close and personal with the gang from director Malcolm D. Lee’s now cult classic film, The Best Man. Now older and wiser — both in life and in the film — the group returns to the big screen with The Best Man Holiday.
From the outset, Lee’s growth is evident, both as a storyteller and a director, as the film just feels a lot more “cinematic” than its predecessor. What helps are the mature performances brought to the table by Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and, especially, Monica Calhoun.
And while the hijinks of Terrence Howard and Melissa DeSousa are sure to bring the house down, it’s the starkly more dramatic spin that’s sure to well up your tearducts, while having you race to tell a friend about what you just saw.
This new Best Man film is a holiday indeed, as it serves as a delightful escape from reality, and a window into a great reunion with a group of friends who’ve been away for far too long. –dewayne rogers
