Leggo is a DJ, producer and engineer hailing from South L.A. Leggo enjoys a bi-coastal life, having residences in both L.A. and NYC where he’s the leading force behind Frisbie Music’s urban/electronic and soul roster. His musical resume includes working with Aftermath Records, co-writer and producer for the 81 piece daKah Hip Hop Orchestra and collaborating with a host of high-profile bands, musicians, writers and DJs from around the world. As an engineer, he’s worked on multiple Grammy-nominated albums and in his role as a music supervisor, he’s curated music selections and oversaw influential music initiatives for a wide range of clients and events including HBO, Reebok, Nike, Scion, Red Bull, General Mills, American Express and now AIO Wireless.
AIO has launched this inspiration series. Tell me a bit about your collaboration with them.
I helped create and curate the custom ringtones and then we started to develop more ideas. The ringtone program is going really well. All of the DJs and producers that were here tonight were part of the program. It all happened really organically. Sometimes when you pair artists with brands that [cohesion] doesn’t really happen. In this case, we were fortunate enough to have that happen.
What is the name of your ringtone?
“Friendly” and “Simple” are my ringtones. It’s a really interesting creative process. We were asked to choose words that represent us and our music as well as integrate with the brand. I come from the ’90’s hip hop production style; things were simple. Sort of like DJ Premiere … Pete Rock; those are my inspirations. Those beats were simple but complex at the same time.
