When Twitter initially boomed, the social media site was popular for the very few, relatively-hip celebrities that were on-board, making themselves available to their fans in a way that seemed more personable than anything before. A little over a half-decade later, celebrities’ interactions with fans–and with each other–via the popular platform has become almost second-nature. Instead of “Entertainment Tonight,” you can just check a Twitter feed.
And no celeb epitomizes the power of Twitter to engage and build a persona in 2013 better than Azealia Banks. The brazen Harlem-born rapstress has become infamous for feuding with fellow celebrities on Twitter. Her bratty, confrontational spirit and razor-sharp wit made her perfect Twitter entertainment. She traded barbs with everyone from Lil Kim to T.I.
But it looks like that notoriety has become a double-edged sword for Banks.
After indicating last week that she would be turning over her account after a year of raising all kinds of Twitter-hell, Banks appears to be making good on her promise. All of her tweets have been deleted from her page, except for photo links.
