Jay-Z and Damon Dash have had a famously frosty relationship since their dissolution of their business partnership back in 2005. The two co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records in the mid-1990s and saw great success only to have their business and personal relationship sour as their interests took different turns. After the split, Jay went on to greater success as an artist and as a businessman, while Dame has taken on smaller ventures and struggled financially.
However, their relationship appeared to be on the mend in recent months.
Dame gave an interview with Combat Jack in May, where he shared that he has no ill will towards Jay and loves witnessing his former partner’s continued success. Jay echoed those sentiments in a later interview with Angie Martinez, where he said that he could only have love and respect for Dash after what they built together.
Well, those warm sentiments finally led to a major moment Wednesday night for both men on the road to reconciliation.
The estranged friends finally reunited for the first time publicly in over eight years. Both Jay and Dame showed up at the birthday party for former Roc-A-Fella staffer, Chaka Pilgrim, in New York City. To the delight of everyone in attendance, Jay and Dash greeted each other with warmth and respect–even sharing a laugh and taking some pics.
