After staging a successful return to popularity as a judge on FOX’s wildly popular, “American Idol,” most would think that Jennifer Lopez would surely return next season to the franchise that revived her fading career. But Lopez has now revealed that she’s unsure about whether she will return to “American Idol” next year.
According to TV Guide, Lopez, who only signed a one-year contract with “Idol,” spoke with BBC Radio 1 on June 14, and revealed her uncertainty about returning to the show.
“I don’t know,” said Lopez. “I haven’t been forced to make a decision and I’m glad about that because honestly I’m very on the fence about it. … It’s going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year and we’re not really at the breaking point of ‘You have to make a decision right now!’ I’m just really enjoying the time of just waiting and seeing.”
Many are speculating that, perhaps, Lopez is questioning coming back to “Idol” due to the show’s apparent emotional toll on her.
“You get to know [the contestants],” she said. “You get to know their hopes and their dreams on camera, off camera. You’re helping them off camera, you’re helping them on camera and it’s this crazy ride you go on together. You definitely get involved, I definitely get involved. I am very emotional as you can see from the show. That’s just how I am.”
Plus, Lopez’s apprehension about returning to the show may concern her own upcoming reality TV show. According to OK!, Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony are teaming up for the new reality project, “Q’Viva,” which would feature the two touring Latin America as they search for up-and-coming talent.
Whatever the reason may be, we’re not so sure that “Idol” or Lopez’s fans would be happy about the singer leaving the show. –nicholas robinson
